Got a New Ride~!

Super excited about our new stroller & am hoping it will make my life with 2 under 2 more bearable. With this thing, I'll definitely be able to get out of the house ... maybe.

I got the stroller on Craigslist with a friends help - just need to buy the doubles kit. Check it out:

With the Doubles Kit it will look like this:
(and hopefully I will look half as stylish and my kids half that happy.)

Came across this wonderful post:

10 baby bunching basics

Over and over again we see some of the same questions out there for moms who have recently discovered they will become Baby Bunchers. So we thought we'd give you the 411 on Baby Bunching basics in one post. We'll provide links to more lengthy discussions, but this should provide everyone your basic tips for two under two. Please, please chime in with more.

1. Learn to let it go. That means everything, although do try to keep some sanity around. No matter how Type A you were before children or even after your first with naptime, mealtime, etc., you will eventually have to give up some of that need to control. Don't get us wrong, Type A qualities are excellent for organizing your crew and getting everyone out and about successfully, but you will eventually have to learn when to cut your losses, what battles to choose and when to just throw up your hands and give in to power of children.

2. It's OK for someone to cry. This could mean your toddler, your baby or even you. It's really OK for someone to cry. You will learn this about two weeks after your second baby is born. (FYI in case you forget....that's when they actually wake up!) Someone will be crying and if you're super lucky, someone might be crying/fussing all the time. Just learn to like the sound or get some earplugs.

3. Learn to be flexible. Things will change and you'll constantly need to reassess situations. As soon as you figure out how to get everyone to the grocery store, some major baby milestone will change your perfect routine. You must learn to reassess and readjust quickly.

4. Enlist help now. That means whatever you need it to mean for your family. If you can call in grandma for 6 weeks to help, DO IT! If you have a million friends volunteering to take your toddler, DO IT! (We promise your toddler won't care. He'll love the attention.) If you have friends wanting to bring you dinner, TAKE IT! Baby Bunching is not about being a martyr. You will have plenty of time to return the favors, take the help now.

5. Gear (double stroller, high chair, monitor, baby wrap/carrier). If your friends/family have offered to throw a baby shower after you just had your other baby (why wouldn't they, they love you), here are a few things you might suggest: double stroller, a high chair (see our recs), a second monitor, and some kind of way to wear your baby, whether it's a wrap, sling, or carrier. You won't need a ton of gear, but these are either must haves or nice to haves. See if you can borrow a second crib so you don't have to buy another.

6. One-on-one time with either child. This will change quite a bit. In the beginning, obviously your baby will eat up most of your time. But remember besides eating and sleeping, they are good for a good while. So use the early days, weeks to spend with your toddler. As the kids get older, you will have to remember it's quality time and not quantity. There is no way you can spend tons of time with each kid during the first few years. If it means a lunch out with mom with your two-year old alone, that is a good effort.

7. Stations everywhere. You will have baby/toddler crap all over your house. Embrace it and organize it. Think like a preschool teacher and have like items together and labeled if that helps. Why label? Because it makes dad, babysitter, grandma, you put it back where it belongs so you can find it quickly. Have a diaper station on every floor of your home. Put tooth brushes at every sink. Keep socks near the door, in the car and in the drawers.

8. Don't forget your hubby. You need him for this. Even if he travels all the time, you need the moral support. Get him involved and make him an active player in some way. And even if you can't find a babysitter, make a collective effort forsome kind of date night once every few weeks so you don't lose each other.

9. When life gets rough, go outside. It's amazing what fresh air and a change of scenery will do for you and your Bunch. Even if it means a stroll around the block, a trip to the playground or just taking lunch out into the back yard, bad times can turn better with fresh air.

10. Don't go it alone. There are more Baby Bunching moms out there than you think. Hit the playgrounds, indoor gyms, local mom's groups and build up your momtourage of Baby Bunchers. Misery wants company and it's great to have these gals on your team!

This weekend Im going to work on #9. Theres no reason why this wouldnt be helpful already with just Brooklyn. :)

Stroller Research: Double Strollers

We recently took a trip down to Lullaby Lane - the land of babies & pregnant women - where you can literally test drive the latest & greatest in baby gear.

I went with my husband, my toddler, my 10 yr old & a list like all the other impregnated, baby gear obsessed women. Today we were to tackle Strollers - double strollers to be specific. My list included the following options due to recommendations & budget:
We have the Baby Jogger City Mini and love it! Its so easy to push, to collapse, to store - has made my errands so much easier and less complicated. So we thought that the Baby Jogger City Mini Double was the answer to our prayers. Until we saw it in person, then we realized that pushing something around that wide gave us both heart palpitations. It folds flat & easy just like the single, pushes like a breeze and was great for the price.

Next we saw the Valco Latitude Twin which was a really nice stroller too! Closes fairly easy (not near as easy as the city mini though) and looks great. Both of these strollers made us realize something though - there was no way we wanted to go the side by side route. With a very independent 14 month old chances are one seat will remain vacant much of the time anyhow.

So we moved on to the tandem options:

The Uppa Baby Vista with Rumble Seat was much bigger in person than I had imagined. I loved it because of its sleek design and the idea that it could hold a baby seat easily and my toddler. The basket was huge and I really liked the looks of it. My husband quickly snubbed his nose at the price AND the fact that our newborn would never sleep thru Brooklyn repeatedly kicking the seat. This was true - I could see it now: my newborn with a fat lip because Mom wanted the pretty stroller. My toddler is way too wild for this setup.

Unfortunately they didnt have the Baby Jogger City Select in yet but I think it will be pretty much the same issue as the Uppa Baby Vista. Wild Toddler + Easy access to baby with feet = very bad idea.

Lastly we checked out the Phil&Ted Sport with Doubles Kit. This one was a winner for the following reasons:
  • Tandem - making navigation easy & trips to the mall still possible even if I can never get out of the house to begin with.
  • Can convert back to a single stroller as Brooklyn gets older which means I can have only ONE stroller!! ahhhhh - Simplify.
  • Price effective: Ive seen them on Craigslist from time to time and deals well under $500 online.
  • Pushes with ease - Great for walks around the neighborhood.
  • Still folds up relatively compactly.

Word of the day: Baby Bunching

So theres an actual word for what Im doing ... and NOOOO, Im not talking about "OOPS" or "CRAZY".
Look: theres a whole blog about it :-D

"Baby Bunching™ is two years of pregnancy and back-to-back infants and toddlers with nary a break for you. Baby Bunching means chaos for you, and your little twiblings. No worries, they become good friends as a result of your bunching strategy. You will become strong, creative, organized, calm and at peace with your new lifestyle without even realizing it."

New Year Prediction: 2 under 2, plus a 10 year old

Yup - thats right folks - we are officially completing our brood.

I found out on Brooklyns 1st Birthday (Nov 2nd). Ironic, no? As I was reminiscing about the day I stared at her little face for the first time I was staring at this in utter shock:

I had no idea how to break the news to my husband. I was freaking out - I couldnt imagine how he would feel. Mind you, I havent blogged about it but we were staying at my parents house while we waited to move into a new home. Im sure you can imagine my surprise - take note; I said we were staying at my parents house ... Now how exactly does your 'time of the month' go missing when youre living with your parents, I'd like to know.

Heres how I broke the news to my Husband;

With H1N1 germs hanging around our pad, I had been force feeding David & Kalina hot tea every night. I got a random email about gargling with salt water and drinking hot liquids as a precautionary measure - legit or not - I was pushing the hot liquids. They both snubbed their nose at it night after night but I continued making it anyhow.

On this particular night, I made my own tea and then I stuck a digital home pregnancy test in a mug (yes - I am aware of how gross that is) for my hubs - with 'pregnant' facing up. I nestle down next to David, who is ready to turn on some lovely trash tv (MTV's The Hills), and I nonchalantly pass him the mug. "Whats... ? What the ...? .... (stares at the stick in the mug) "Youre Pregnant? Are you joking? You're pregnant? Shut the front door! You're Pregnant?"

Then he sits up half-smiling, half-stunned - "when did you get pregnant??" ... As if I did this all by myself. ;)

Then I go from smiling to crying, "Oh my god - You're not happy. You're not HAPPY? I knew it - youre stressed!" "Im happy!" Hes says. Then we're both crying and he starts laughing hysterically. HYSTERICALLY. "OMG - we're living at your parents house and you're pregnant" More hysterical laughter. "OMG - Im getting snipped, Im making an appointment tomorrow. OMG." and of course, more hysterical laughter.

"Did you check the chinese baby calendar??"

... he runs out to his truck to get the chart his sister gave him when we got married. "MALE!!!Male! Male! Male!" He throws the dog in the air screaming, "We're gonna have more testosterone Daisy!!"

(Of course, I had to burst his bubble and remind him that it still MAY be another girl.)

So - there you have it; we anticipate being a family of FIVE come July 2010.
